Nola
Nola was one of those once-in-a-lifetime heart dogs — the kind who weaves herself so completely into your days that the world feels a little different after she’s gone. Too smart for her own good (or more likely for mine), she was a tiny powerhouse with a trail-blazer’s soul, always ready for the next hike and never letting her size set her limits.
She collected nicknames and she starred in more of our silly made-up songs than I can count. Everyone who met her loved her, but at Senior Littles she was the undeniable pack leader — a bit bossy, always confident, and absolutely adored.
Her time with us was heartbreakingly short, but the imprint she left is immeasurable. She changed us. She led us. And her bright, stubborn, brilliant spirit is felt in every corner of our home.
She will be forever, deeply missed.

Linda
This sweet girl had a rough start in life, carrying the effects of severe dental disease that had taken most of her lower jaw. But none of that dimmed her spirit. She loved Wendy with her whole being—completely, fiercely, and without hesitation—and her happiest moments were simply those spent by her side. We only had three years with her, far too few, but in that short time she showed us what pure sweetness and trust look like. She asked for so little and gave so much in return. Losing her was a heartbreaking loss for all of us, and her absence is felt every day.

Ida
Miss Ida came to us after her previous owner passed away, and while senior glow-ups are something of a specialty here at SLS, she reached us just a little too late. She had an advanced, fast-growing oral tumor—already past the point where surgery could even be considered.
Even so, Ida was the sweetest of souls. She wanted nothing more than to be loved, and we made sure she was. For eight beautiful weeks, we spoiled her endlessly, filled her days with affection, treated her to homemade meals, and kept her as comfortable as we possibly could.
When the time came, she told us in the soft, unmistakable way animals do. We helped her leave this world with dignity, wrapped in love, and knowing she mattered.

Ghost Dog
Ghost Dog took nearly a year to unpack everything she arrived carrying and to let her guard down enough to trust humans again. When she did, she gifted us with the sweetest kisses. We truly believed we were finally on top of all her medical needs when, heartbreakingly, she left us suddenly — just as she was beginning to fully settle in and enjoy the safety and comfort of the sanctuary. We'll never forget this sweet gtil who never asked for anything but kindness

Maddi
Maddi came to us after her owner passed away, having spent some time trying to navigate life on her own with her companion, Isabelle. She was an unusual little soul with some neurological quirks, but she made sure her needs were heard—especially when she let out what could only be described as the call of a screaming elk to tell Isabelle to move out of her way.
Despite her challenges, Maddi had a quiet strength about her. When she finally let us know she was ready to stop fighting, we held her gently and helped her cross peacefully, surrounded by love. She left this world the same way she moved through it—on her own terms, with a fierce little spirit and a heart that had finally found safety.
